John Trautman Dec. 17, 1920-Feb. 20, 2014 John Trautman, 93, of Sarasota, passed away on February 20, 2014. He was born on December 17, 1920 in Hungary. He married Katherine Hild in November 1940, and served in the Hungarian Army for 4 years. In 1950 John brought his family to the United States of America to start a new life. Their life in America was a dream come true and he became a US Citizens in 1955. His first job was as a Machinist at Kuntz Bros Foundry in Dayton Ohio. He later worked at Delco Moraine for General Motors in the Model Shop. He was the machinist to build the first test model of the "Disc Brake" for GM....

John Trautman, 93, of Sarasota, passed away on February 20, 2014. He was born on December 17, 1920 in Hungary.

He married Katherine Hild in November 1940, and served in the Hungarian Army for 4 years.

In 1950 John brought his family to the United States of America to start a new life.

Their life in America was a dream come true and he became a US Citizens in 1955.

His first job was as a Machinist at Kuntz Bros Foundry in Dayton Ohio.

He later worked at Delco Moraine for General Motors in the Model Shop. He was the machinist to build the first test model of the "Disc Brake" for GM. His work was meticulous and always perfect. The disc brake is the standard on automobiles today.

John retired in 1980 and moved to Ft Myers, Florida with his wife, his mother, as well as his mother & father in law.

A few years later they moved to Sarasota where they bought the first of the 3 homes they owned until 2012. That year Katherine became ill and they moved to Waterside Assisted living.


John Trautman was a loving husband, a dedicated father to his children as well as a devout Christian. His family was very important to him and he worked hard to provide the best for them.

He was extremely intelligent and resourceful designing and building his own home, remodeling numerous homes for friends and family. There was nothing John couldn't do.

In retirement and into his 80's, John was always active helping people. Wherever they lived, he became the communities "Go to Man" for anything they wanted or needed done.

John lived by the ethic of "Doing it the Right Way the First Time" and he did it to perfection.

John was deeply loved by his family and friends. He will forever be remembered and missed by all.

He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Katherine; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Dale Motschman, and Anna and Thomas Zimmerman; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Terry Trautman, and Henry and Cynthia Trautman; ten grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
