John A. Tronolone, of Barnegat, age 68, passed away on Sunday November 20, 2011 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA due to complications from a stroke suffered in December.
Born in Brooklyn NY, John was a true friend, gifted educator, loyal son and brother, devoted father and loving grandfather.
A graduate of Valley Stream Central High School and State University of New York in Oneonta, he went on to dedicate over thirty years of his life as a science teacher and theater technical director at the Philadelphia High School for Girls. Following his retirement he continued educating in various ways, from using his encyclopedic knowledge of anything under the sun in passing conversations, to showing his grandson how to swim , or in a more literal means as a volunteer at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.
He spent the last 20 years living with and aiding his mother, while also keeping up his love for traveling on the highways of the eastern seaboard and beyond to visit family and see the breathtaking sights on the open road. A lover of all things historical and geological no battlefield or outcropping of rock was too slight to pass under his admiring eye.
Additionally, John was an avid sports fan , following a wide range of sports and teams, from the courts of college basketball to the greens of the Masters and the gridiron of the NFL and NCAA. He was a diehard Eagles fan, but kept up with many teams he was attached to either through locale or family, like the teams from Penn State and University of Georgia.
As a father, he proved that physical proximity had no bearing on emotional intimacy. Despite being miles from from his children following a divorce, he was as close and committed to them and their families any father could be living next door.
He was survived by his mother, Ada Tronolone of Barnegat, NJ; brother, Michael Tronolone of Kingston, NY; sister-in-law, Alveretta Tronolone of Norwich, NY; Children : John & Marrie Tronolone of Tucker, GA, Andrew & Amy Tronolone of Riverdale, GA, and Theresa Tronolone of Scottdale, GA; as well as his two grandchildren, Rylan and Maya.
John's viewing will be held will be held Saturday, November 26th at 11:00 AM at Thomas Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive, Manahawkin NJ 08050 , followed by a funeral service at the same location.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, 283 Beachview Avenue, Manahawkin, NJ 08050 with a gathering following at the Barnegat Diner, 849 West Bay Avenue Barnegat, NJ 08005. All are welcome.
Floral tributes and condolences may be sent to the funeral home.
In lieu of or in addition to floral tributes, charitable contributions may be made in his honor to selected charities that have touched his life through family and friends.
To honor him we have created a memorial registry at https://www.justgive.org/registries/memorial/donate/jtronolone.
