John Irving Van Nostrand III age 73 of Homewood, AL, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2013. John was born July 4, 1940 to John Irving and Alberta Van Nostrand in Highland, New York. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a navigator for 6 years, following his time in the Air Force John earned a Master's Degree in education from the University of Georgia, and he retired from the Social Security Administration with 28 years of service. John is preceded in death by his parents John Irving and Alberta Van Nostrand II, brothers Terry, Charles, and Bruce. John is preceded in death by his parents John Irving and Alberta Van Nostrand II, brothers Terry, Charles, and Bruce. He is survived by his life-long companion Ray Payne, his sister Sheila Eplin of Holly Hill, Florida, brother Ronnie Van Nostrand (wife Shirley) of Pasco, Washington, sisters in laws Marjorie Conklin (husband Robert) of Shirley, New York, Sharon Van Nostrand of Conway, South Carolina, Mary Taylor of Fort Mill , South Carolina, Bonnie Cameron of Spokane, Washington, and his God daughter Jo Anna Marguerita Remirez Salazar.
A time of visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Ridout's Valley Chapel and a chapel service will follow at 3:00 PM at Valley Chapel. There will also be a prayer service on Sunday, November 3,2013 at 4:00 PM at Peeples Funeral Home in Chatsworth, Georgia.The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 on Sunday at Peeples Funeral Home.
Honorary Pallbearers on Sunday will be Harriett Adams, William Payne, Linda Addington, Edward Payne, Ronnie Payne, and Donnie Payne.
