COLUMBIA - John “Jack” Turner Weeks born December 1, 1918, passed June 7, 2014, after a long residency at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Home.

Jack was born in Warrenton, Virginia to the late Joseph Addison Weeks and Clara Bishop where he spent his youth with his three brothers, William, Alton and Roland. While stationed at a Naval posting in Ottawa, Canada, he met his beloved wife, Shirley Pratt (deceased) and together the two brought Ford Addison Weeks (deceased) into this world. An incredibly driven man, Jack spent 25 years working his way up in the banking industry, finishing his career as the Vice Chairman and Director of Bankers Trust (now The Bank of America.) After his illustrious career in banking, he was appointed the Tax Commissioner for the State of South Carolina, holding the position for 5 years until his retirement in 1986. Never one to sit still, Jack spent his retirement travelling the world with Shirley. During his down time he enjoyed his self-prophesized “beach bum” lifestyle with friends and family at his second home in Litchfield Beach, played many rounds of golf, and his fair share of bridge games.

Jack is survived and will be forever missed by many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Teayah Burton and Tina Smith, Jack’s care givers, from the bottom of our hearts for all the care they have given to Jack over many years. We are also forever grateful to Robert Sumpter and all the other staff of Still Hopes who have looked after Jack so well.

In memory of Jack and Shirley’s dedication to education, memorial donations may be sent to the John T. Weeks Scholarship Fund at the University of South Carolina, c/o USC Educational Foundation, 1027 Barnwell St., Columbia, SC, 29208.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Martin’s-in-the-Fields, 5220 Clemson Avenue, Columbia, SC on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. For more information please contact Jack’s niece, Amy Shoup, at 1.604.898.3844 or amyshoup@shaw.ca.
