Obituary

Johnnie Elizabeth (Betty) England passed away December 17th in Sonora, California. Betty was born January 31, 1923 and raised in Athens, Georgia and lived in Sonora, California since 2001 with her husband Larry England. Betty was the only child of Lavelle and Hattie Cephus Moorehead of Athens, Ga. Betty was awarded title of Miss Athens Personality in 1937 by the Elks Club. She served as President of the Junior Girl Reserves, YWCA. She graduated from Athens High School. Betty owned and operated an Athens landmark "Betty's Truck Stop" for 30 years before it was destroyed by a tornado in 1971. Betty loved the Lord and all creatures including...
Johnnie Elizabeth (Betty) England passed away December 17th in Sonora, California.
Betty was born January 31, 1923 and raised in Athens, Georgia and lived in Sonora, California since 2001 with her husband Larry England.
Betty was the only child of Lavelle and Hattie Cephus Moorehead of Athens, Ga.
Betty was awarded title of Miss Athens Personality in 1937 by the Elks Club. She served as President of the Junior Girl Reserves, YWCA. She graduated from Athens High School.
Betty owned and operated an Athens landmark "Betty's Truck Stop" for 30 years before it was destroyed by a tornado in 1971.
Betty loved the Lord and all creatures including her beloved pets and always left a friendly impression on everyone she met with a smile that illuminated the room! Her hobbies included reading, Bible study and meditating. Betty was a member of the Beech Haven Baptist Church in Athens. Memorials may be made to the church.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Larry England.
Betty is also survived by her son Godfrey L. Channell and wife Debbie of Athens, Georgia and daughter Renee Padgett of Athens.
She has three granddaughters, Leanna Adams of Elberton, Tyler Padgett of Athens and Savannah Channell of Athens. Trey Compton of Athens is her step grandson.
Betty has three great- grandsons, Peyton Adams, Carson Adams and Maddox Adams, all from Elberton, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Beech Haven Baptist Church, 2390 West Broad St, Athens, GA 30606.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home at 11am Friday, December 21st with Dr Stewart Simms memorializing.
