Johnnie Edward Mayo's earthly journey ended and he was welcomed to his heavenly home on April 21, 2017 in Birmingham, AL at the age of 68.
Johnnie is survived by his wife, Cathi; children Matt (Julie), Phillip (Michelle), and Kacey (Joby) White; siblings Linda (Ron) McKinley of Medford, OR; Linda (Richard) McComack of TX; Steve Mayo of Jerome, ID; Ronnie (Kathy) Mayo of Douglas, WY; Kay (Bryan) Sanborn of Casper, WY; David (Laura) Mayo of Gillette, WY; and 10 grandchildren Jacob, Alexis, Brooklyn, Charlee, Morgan, Taylor, Brunson, AbieAnna, Merritt, and Asa. He is preceded in death by his parents Johnnie Everett Mayo & Nelda "Jean" Mayo, and Melba "Jean" Quick
Johnnie was born on March 25, 1949 in Cullman, AL to Johnnie Everett Mayo and Melba Jean. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1972. His service included two tours in Vietnam where he was wounded in combat and later received a purple heart.
Johnnie married Cathi, the love of his life in 1973. The couple was blessed with three children and one granddaughter whom they raised. Johnnie set about teaching them the value of hard work and how to provide for a family. His children remember him as a dedicated husband and a loving father who always made sure they knew they were loved and had everything they needed.
Johnnie spent many years delivering precious cargo all over North America and received many safe driving awards for never having an accident in all his years. He also was a mechanic at Mayo Tire which he owned and operated. Johnnie also was a football and baseball coach for his kids. He was a dedicated individual who loved the Lord and who was passionate about serving at his church. He will be remembered and missed at The Church of the Highlands where he served on the greeter team and made sure that everyone who came through "Johnnie's door" felt blessed.
A visitation will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday the 25th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm with a celebration of Johnnie's life on Wednesday the 26th at 1:00pm with Tony Jones officiating the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Johnnie's life. The family would like to thank Princeton Baptist CICU for their efforts, care, and dedication. ROLL TIDE.

God accepted one of His home, now I can just imagine those golden streets with two big rigs running side by side with two of the best truckers I knew. Ones in a rig called "Big Blue" and Little Johnnie in his truck right beside. Love to all of you Peggy
