Biography

Jon Stephen Grubbs was born in Chicago, Il to the late Leon and Alberta Grubbs. As a youngster, Jon's family moved to Los Angeles, CA. He received his formal education at Audubon Jr. High and Dorsey High Schools where he was an Honor Roll student and "lettered" man in sports. While attending Bishop College, he was drafted into the United States Army and served two years in the Viet Nam War. Jon received the Purple Heart for bravery during combat and was awarded other distinguished military medals and commendations. Jon recently served as Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Post 726; an active member of the VFW and DAV service organizations. He served in the usher ministry at The Crossing a Christian Church in Southwest Las Vegas. Preceding Jon to glory were two brothers, Norwood and Jimmy and his parents. Leaving to cherish his memory are his precious wife, Elizabeth K. Grubbs of 32 wonderful years, two sisters, Mrs. Joy Randall (John) of Los Angeles, Reverend Janis Cobbs (Thomas) of Lawrence, Kansas, his cousin, David Cook of Los Angeles, four nieces, Tina Michelle, Joyous, Janice, and Lisa; four nephews, Michael, Jason, T. J. and Sam and a host of loving relatives and friends. Viewing and Celebration of Life will be held at Palm Mortuary at 1600 Jones Blvd. at Oakey on Monday, November 14, starting at 10 a.m. The internment will be a graveside service at Inglewood Park Cemetery on Friday, November 18, 2011.
