My heart goes out to Joe's loving family and his friends who love him so much. I only saw and knew him as an infant, for I have not seen the family in a lifetime of years. I knew Josefina and José María, his parents, and his mother's family, the Barcias. I am so very sorry to hear of this heartbreaking tragedy of Joe's death. There is a saying that may be true for you: Friendship divides our grief and doubles our joy. May the outpouring of love from all those who know Joe offer you some comfort in your grief.

My heart breaks and aches for you all. I'm so very sorry for your loss and at the start of a new year. Please know I am thinking of you all.
One less place at a table
One less cup of coffee in the mornings to make
One less gift to give on holidays,
But oh so much love left,
And so much still to see around
Even when tears burden the view.
Much love and light to you all during this time. My heart is with you all.

I remember Jose as a little boy, in my home with my mother feeding all of us lots of good food, sharing Easters and Thanksgivings, watching my father act silly to make Jose and his siblings laugh. I remember the Jose that I took to the Bruce Springsteen concert in 1985, the Jose that was there when I first started dating my husband. The time I took Jose and Mark to see "Out of Africa" because they made me see action movies. He was a sweet boy, a great cousin. I know others knew the adult Jose better than me, but as I type this I see the little boy in my childhood home, laughing and playing. Very good memories. Rest in peace Jose. You were loved.
