Dad passed away on Feb. 19, 2013, one day before his 96th Birthday. Born in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico on Feb. 20, 1917 he arrived in Tucson, Arizona when he was 3 months old. He attended elementary school through 8th Grade and quit to start working. At 23 years of age he enlisted in the army in 1940. He would say that had he known World War II was going to start in 1941, he wouldn't have enlisted. He met a wonderful woman, Cuca, whom he married in 1942. During the war he fought many battles but the worse were The Battle of the Bulge and on "D" Day ("Landing" of Normandy) He landed at Omaha Beach. He always said he saw so many soldiers died that day and "Yet "he survived. He was wounded on November 28, 1944 while serving in France and was awarded The Purple Heart. On September 20, 1945 he left the Army and started a career as Meat Cutter in El Paso, Texas. He and Ruth had three children and also helped raise his sister-in-laws children who always called him "Daddy". He had a full life. He loved to dance, enjoyed playing cards and happy with his wife's sopa de fideo, tacos y frijoles. He felt blessed to have been married to his beautiful wife for 71 years.
