Pepe, we go back a long time when I was working at Moctezuma's and Genaro's Tropical in the early 80's. Many of our friends are still there at Javier's - Joel, Luis, and many others. Mom (Shely) and I feel so lucky to have counted you as a friend. Much love to you and your family.

I began going to Javier's about 20 years ago when I was a student at SMU. Oh how my father and I loved to go there after a performance at school to celebrate.

It was then I fell in love with the entire Javier's family. I distinctly remember a younger Pepe, yet still the charismatic man he always has been.
Later.....I went on to marry a wonderful man from Javier's Restaurant. My father had his 60th SURPRISE Birthday Party there and will never forget it.

No matter if I went to Javier's alone to wait for my husband or with the whole family, Pepe was there to greet me with a kiss and smile always welcoming me with open arms.
He insisted I call him "TIO" since I married a man with the same last name as his. :)

I just want his entire family to know that I feel so lucky to have known him and to have had some brief wonderful memories of a man that was always so kind to me and I will miss him so....

To Carmen and the grand children Angel, Anisa and Aleena (Pepita) . . . Your father (and Grand Papi) is to be remembered as a "Classic Gentleman" that showed his spirit, his heart and kindness to everyone he met. He never met a stranger and treated all he met with respect (even when they didnt deserve it - lol).

He is an inspiration to all his friends, customers and fellow "familia" employees of Javier's who are in the same pain as you are at this time and we all miss him dearly.

His spirit is alive and lives on through all the people that remember him and say and write good things about him. We can all learn from this man and should try to emulate his great qualities.

I celebrate his life and my prayers are with you, his friends, customers of and his fellow employees who loved him so much.

Pepe has made his transition from the earthly physical body.. but his spirit remains and touches and inspires all who loved him. May your dad rest in peace and I pray you may find a little comfort and that your children are bathed in a warmth glow of love in knowing that he was loved by so many people from every background, race and gender.

Celebrate his life at this time with all us who loved him!

May I encourage all who read this to consider donating to the Jose "Pepe" Ayala Memorial Fund set up to assist the his grand kids:

Pepe.. you were loved and will be missed by so many… your smile and easy nature made you a “classic gentleman” in Dallas to all who met you. I knew you and loved you and I will miss you dearly. We had many laughs and jokes on each other and I am glad to have called you my friend for 30 years.
