Josefa Joerg Pulvermacher, 90, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2013, in Nine Mile Falls, WA. She was born November 8, 1922, in Roßhaupten/Füssen, Bavaria, Germany. Josefa is survived by her two daughters, Anne Kirchner (Bill) of Nine Mile Falls and Patricia Aerni (Dan) of Spokane, WA; sister, Josephine Ashley (Richard) of FL, brothers-in-law and their wives, Ralph and Maxine Pulvermacher and Don and Tootie Pulvermacher; sister-in-law and her husband, Agnes and Cecil Sickels, of WI; sisters-in-law, Janet Pulvermacher and Donna Pulvermacher; three grandsons, Christopher Kirchner, Nathan Kirchner, and Michael Russell; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Edmund M. Pulvermacher, on February 13, 2006; parents, Martin and Theresia (Hoermann) Joerg; four brothers, Josef Joerg, Simon Joerg, Hans Joerg, and Wilhelm Joerg; and two sisters, Elizabeth Glossner (Christian) and Hildegard (Dirk) Duys.
In Germany, Josefa worked in several hotels and told stories of hoisting foaming mugs of beer for guests. She also worked at the base exchange in Landsberg. During Reconstruction after WWII, Josefa met her life's love, Edmund. Following him, Josefa immigrated to the U.S. in May of 1955 and married her Eddie on June 21,1955, in Reno, Nevada. She attended citizenship classes and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in August of 1958.
For many years, Josefa's life was full of caring for her daughters and setting up comfortable homes after the family's transfer from one Air Force base to another. When time permitted, she would enjoy sewing for herself and her daughters and needle work. After her daughters were grown, Josefa worked as a waitress for the Manito Golf and Country Club and the Little German Inn. Retirement held the enjoyment of several years of visiting family in Wisconsin and Germany and helping to raise her grandsons.
Josefa has been a devoted member of St. Charles Parish since 1967. A Vigil rosary service will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013, at 7:00 P.M. in the Alwin Chapel of Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe St., Spokane, WA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at 1:00 P.M. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4515 N. Alberta St., Spokane with Rev. Thomas Connolly presiding.
