Joseph Andrew Armstead

ARMSTEAD, Joseph "Joe" Andrew, died on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at MCV Hospital. He was eight years old. Joseph was born April 9, 2001 in Chesterfield, Virginia. His parents are Kristina O. and Clifton Lee Armstead Jr. of Midlothian. In addition to his parents, Joseph is survived by his older brother, Clifton "Tripp" Lee Armstead III; his paternal great-grandmothers, Magdalene Armstead of Richmond and Elizabeth Reynolds of Midlothian; his maternal grandparents, Ellen J. Otto and Robert J. Otto, both of Orange, Va.; his paternal grandparents, Gloria Jean and Clifton Lee Armstead Sr. of Midlothian; his two aunts, Kirsten Otto Samuels and her husband, Charles, of Rapidan, Va. and Sharonda Lewis and her husband, Donnie, of Midlothian; one uncle, Andrew H. Otto of Orange; three cousins, Corinn and Koron Lewis of Midlothian and Charlotte G. Samuels of Rapidan; two very special childhood friends, Steven and Zach Newsome of Midlothian; a whole host of other uncles, aunts, cousins and family friends too numerous to mention; and his favorite dog, Casey.

Joseph was a third grade student at J. B. Watkins Elementary School in Mrs. Behnke's class. He loved school, his teachers and all of his school friends, especially Logan Georgel. Joseph played flag football and always watched the Dallas Cowboys with his dad and brother. He loved going to the beach every summer and was an accomplished boogie-boarder. When he wasn't running, playing and having lots of fun, Joseph loved to snuggle up for a little quiet time with his mama. Joseph had a wonderful sense of humor, a beautiful smile and a wise, old soul. He was creative and inquisitive, thoughtful and kind, full of spunk and mischief. Joseph's loving heart and amazing generosity of spirit was demonstrated by his wish to donate his organs. Joseph was loved dearly by his family and friends and his loss will be felt for a very long time.

The family will receive friends at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Prayer Service starting at 7 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday, at Church of the Epiphany, 11000 Smoketree Drive. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Joseph's organ donation, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to LifeNet Health Foundation, 1864 Concert Dr., Virginia Beach, Va. 23453, or at LifeNet-Foundation.org.
