NORTHPORT | Joseph (Joe) Bryant Burroughs, age 84, of Northport, died January 19, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Northport Church of God with Rev. Greg Strickland and Rev. Paul Champion officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m at Northport Church of God. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. Survivors include his wife, Julie (Booth) Burroughs of Northport; daughters, Vicky Champion (Paul) of McCalla and Wendy Stiteler (Mike) of Northport; brothers, Allen Burroughs of Memphis, Tenn.; grandchildren, Breanna Stiteler, Hunter Champion and Blake Stiteler.Joe served in Korean War from 1950-1952. He married Julie Booth Burroughs on April 19, 1952. He was a member of the Northport Church of God for 47 years and served in many capacities. He retired from Gulf States Paper Corp. and Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Co. After retirement, Joe was a faithful walker and bench sitter with others at the University Mall. In most recent years, you might find him sitting on the bench at Northport Walmart with a smile on his face. He had been married to his sweet heart for almost 62 years. The joy of his life was his 2 daughters. Then came his 2 sons-in-law, followed by his 3 grand kids who became the center of his life.Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Breanna Stiteler, Hunter Champion and Blake Stiteler along with Larry Godfrey, David Sanders, Eugene Simpson, Jack Ross, Randy Sullivan, and Terry Wheatley.Honorary pallbearers are members and friends of Northport Church of God, Jill Sanford and staff of Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. Stephen Browne and staff, neighbors of Birdway Dr., William and Sandra Robertson and family and a host of family and friends.Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetbrown-funeral.com.

Julie was sorry to read Joe had passed away and if I had known he was at Hospice of West Alabama would tried to have visited him. Hope you are well and will keep you in my prayers. Hope his death will not keep you from visiting us old folks who occasionally walk but mostly sit and gossip.
