Joseph Robert Cates, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.

He was a native of Russellville, KY, a retired machinist for American Air Filter, a member of Faith Lutheran Church, and an Army veteran of WWII.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Hacker Cates; his parents, Will and Fannie Pearl; one sister; and three brothers.

Survivors include a son Steven Cates (Teresa); daughters, Karen Hauser (Andy) and Janet McLemore (Kenny); 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held at 12:00 Monday at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Hwy, followed by burial at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-7 pm Sunday.

Memorial gifts may be made to Hosparus, P.O. Box 35425, Louisville, KY 40232-9892.
