Joe was born in Rome, NY and lived in Newark and Bloomfield for many years before moving to Cedar Knolls. He was currently a resident of Care One at Morris – Assisted Living. His career took him from being an Italian bread baker in a family-owned business…to a truck driver. He was employed by TransCon Lines in Clifton for many years before retiring in the early 1980's.

An avid fisherman and WWII veteran, Joe was one of the last living survivors of Pearl Harbor and the only survivor who proudly participated in the New York City Veterans Day parade for two years. He was a Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Catholic War Veterans, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Inc., and he was a 3rd degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Post 6904.

He was the loving father of Joseph J. Coccia, Jr and his wife Nancy, Anna Marie Cesario and her husband Dan, and Elisa Scarpino and her husband Anthony; dear brother of Anthony "Tut" Coccia and Gloria Maddi; cherished grandfather of Joseph III, Matthew, and Elizabeth Coccia, Nicole and Daniel Cesario, and Elyse and Grace Scarpino; and great grandfather of Matthew and Kevin.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 66 years Elizabeth DiGiorgio Coccia, his parents Angelo and Anna Coccia, brothers Peter, Ralph and John Coccia, and sisters Lilly Christensen, Sally Forchelli, Nellie Grasso, Nancy Kuna, and Frances Keyser.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Notre Dame of Mount Carmel Church, 75 Ridgedale Ave., Cedar Knolls, NJ 07927.
