Obituary

Joseph Edward Compton, Sr., 70, of Martinsville, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Henry County, October 18, 1943 to the late George J. Compton and Beulah Minter Compton. He served in the Army from 1962 to 1968 and was retired from Stanley Furniture. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph E. (Joey) Compton, Jr.; two sisters, Doris Cross and Betty Wike; three brothers, Ted Compton, Julian Compton and Gerald R. (Henry) Compton. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Viola Barker Compton of the residence; one daughter, Brenda C. Thornhill...
Joseph Edward Compton, Sr., 70, of Martinsville, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Henry County, October 18, 1943 to the late George J. Compton and Beulah Minter Compton. He served in the Army from 1962 to 1968 and was retired from Stanley Furniture. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph E. (Joey) Compton, Jr.; two sisters, Doris Cross and Betty Wike; three brothers, Ted Compton, Julian Compton and Gerald R. (Henry) Compton.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Viola Barker Compton of the residence; one daughter, Brenda C. Thornhill of Spencer and a step-son, Curtis W. Barker, Sr. of Martinsville; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral home with the Rev. J. D. Harmon officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. Pallbearers will be: Wayne Barker, C. W. Barker, David Barker, Herman Thornhill, Junior Thornhill and Micheal Chavez.
