SGM. (Ret.) Joseph Galiana, Jr., age 81, of Harker Heights passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in a Austin Hospital. Joseph was born January 11, 1931 in New Britton, Conn. to Joseph Galiana, Sr. and Margaret (Garro) Galiana. He served in the United States Army until his retirement in 1986. SGM. (Ret.) Joseph Galiana, Jr., age 81, of Harker Heights passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in a Austin Hospital.
Joseph was born January 11, 1931 in New Britton, Conn. to Joseph Galiana, Sr. and Margaret (Garro) Galiana.
He served in the United States Army until his retirement in 1986. While serving he fought in the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Good Conduct Medal silver with three loops, the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, the Professional Development Ribbon numeral three, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon numeral three, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Expert Badge for both rifle and pistol, the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the Republic of Korean Presidential Unit Citation.
He was a member of St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ok-Jae Lee Galiana on June 2, 1980.
Joseph is survived by his wife of thirty years, Muncha Galiana of Harker Heights; four sons, Joseph Galiana, III and his wife Gloria, Michael Galiana and his wife Irene, Thomas Galiana and his wife Holly all of Copperas Cove and Alexander Galiana and his wife Stacey of Austin; a daughter Brenda Scull and her husband Gary of Winfield, MO; a brother, Richard Galiana and a sister Lucy Galiana both of Florida; fourteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Galiana family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2012 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 in the chapel of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. Interment services will follow in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
