Joseph Francis Gouveia, age 92 of Plano passed away on on Friday, May 23, 2014 at his residence.

Joseph was born November 30, 1921, a son of Joseph M. and Rose (Mello) Gouveia.

He served in the Navy in the South Pacific on the USS Sheridan in WW 2, and on the USS Monterey in the Korean War.

Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, he was a long time resident of New Jersey and
Florida.


He married Alice Rebello on June 6, 1942.


Joseph was one of the original organizers of the Julius Silver Post 7681, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Newark, New Jersey.

Joseph is predeceased by his mother and father Rose and Joseph Gouveia, and sister Mary Borges.

He is survived by his wife Alice Rebello Gouveia of Plano, daughter Peggy Spitaletto and Son in Law Thomas Spitaletto of Plano, 3 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren.

Joseph was a graduate of the first Apprentice school of General Motors and retired at 52 years after 32 years of service.

A visitation will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Ted Dickey Funeral Home located at 2128 18th Street in Plano, Texas with a rosary to be recited at 4:00.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, located at 3100 West Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Father Bruce Bradley will officiate. Following the Mass, there will be a procession from the church to Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rowlett to his final place of rest.

Pallbearers for the service will be Tom Spitaletto, Tommy Spitaletto, Jackson Spitaletto, Dylan Spitaletto, Michael Spitaletto, and Manuel Gomes.

Ted Dickey Funeral Home in Plano has charge of arrangements.
