Joseph L. Mardeusz January 1, 1930 - November 9, 2013 Holyoke, MA: Joseph Lucien Mardeusz, 83, a lifelong resident of Holyoke died on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home after a long illness. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Joseph A. and Anna (Sabon) Mardeusz, and was a graduate of Holyoke High School. Joseph was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. He worked for A & P Supermarkets in the Receiving Department for over 40 years and later as a Custodian for the Holyoke School Department, retiring in 1998. Holyoke, MA: Joseph Lucien Mardeusz, 83, a lifelong resident of Holyoke died on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home after a long illness. He was born in Holyoke, son of the late Joseph A. and Anna (Sabon) Mardeusz, and was a graduate of Holyoke High School. Joseph was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. He worked for A & P Supermarkets in the Receiving Department for over 40 years and later as a Custodian for the Holyoke School Department, retiring in 1998. A communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, Joseph was a member of the American Legion Post 351 and volunteered at Blessed Sacrament Preschool and was an active member of the Holyoke Senior Center. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf, walking the Ashley reservoir and working around his yard and garden. He loved the ball games at McKenzie field, playing pitch at the Senior Center, monthly bus trips to the casino and Sunday's at the Bolton Ice Palace. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie M. (Simon) Mardeusz and four children; Steven J. Mardeusz and his wife Martha, Jeanne C. Giblin and her late husband John P. Giblin, Rosemary A. McCarthy and her husband Michael, and Joseph E. Mardeusz; five grandchildren, Jay and his wife Wendy, Peter Giblin, Abby and Jake McCarthy, Grayson Chase; a sister, Mary Popko. and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and son-in-law, Joseph was predeceased by four brothers, Stanley, Casimir, Daniel and Henry Mardeusz. The Funeral will be held on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, both in Holyoke. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Main Street, Agawam. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Joseph to the Holyoke Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
