Memorial Reception and celebration of his life will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 6th at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, 2778 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN 47150. A scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. The immediate family will have a private family burial the following day.

Dr. Joseph P. Mudd was a family physician over a period of 56 years in Clarksville, Indiana to his Indiana/Kentucky patients. Dr. Joseph Mudd was the son of Dr. Edward D. Mudd and Estelle A. Howard, born January 23, 1925 at Springfield, Ky., the tenth of eleven children all of which are deceased. He grew up in New Haven, Kentucky where his father practiced medicine for more than 60 years. It was at this home that he attended St. Catherine Catholic School. He completed high school in 1943 at St. Joseph Prep in Bardstown, Kentucky. He then served in the United States Army until 1946, distinguishing himself during combat operations in France, and Germany as a Staff Sergeant in the 100th Division, 397th Infantry. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery in the battle for Heilbronn, Germany in April of 1945. He returned from the war in March 1946 and enrolled in the University of Louisville where he stayed until 1954 graduating with an M.D. following in his father and brother's footsteps. He did his internship at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton, OH. Dr. Mudd began his medical practice in Clarksville, Indiana in 1955 and gave 56 years of service to the people of that area. Dr. Mudd was married May 20, 1950 to "Trudy" Riney, of Owensboro, Kentucky. To this union were born five daughters and one son. Mrs. Mudd died March 27, 2012 nearing their 62nd wedding anniversary. Dr. Mudd was among the last of a passing institution, the independent family doctor. He was a philosopher as well as a physician with a dry sense of humor and strong beliefs, which he did not hesitate to voice. Dr. Mudd loved to dance with his wife Trudy, fly airplanes, plant his vegetable garden and grow his prized tomatoes, hunt, ski and tinker around in his garage and yard. He was most passionate about boating, fishing, his medical practice and his patients. His family's most memorable moments were fishing and boating on family vacations, his campfire cooking over the glowing coals of an outdoor fire, Memorial Day parades and the famous July 4th goldfish swim in the family pool.

Surviving children, Ms. Janet Mudd, Palm Beach, FL; Ms Deborah Tuggle, Louisville, KY; Ms Jolene Barton, Loveland, OH; Mr Paul Mudd, Charlestown, IN; Dr Ann Mudd DMD, Louisville, KY; Ms Leslie Mudd, New Albany, IN; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to: Hosparus Louisville, 3532 Ephraim McDowell Dr., Louisville, KY 40205 for their care of Dr. Mudd or to of Greater Kentucky Southern Indiana, 6100 Dutchmans Lane, Suite 401, Louisville, KY 40205 in honor of Trudy Mudd.
