Joseph Quinn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 25, 2013.

Joseph ("Joe") Francis Quinn, 77, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. With him were his children, Edward P. Quinn of Portsmouth, and Catherine A. Quinn of North Easton, MA. Through his death, Joe reunites with his beloved wife, Rita L. Quinn. Joe leaves behind his two children, his son-in-law Scott P. Hamlin and grandson Evan Quinn Hamlin, also of North Easton. His loving family includes his twin brother Jim and his wife Frances of Spruce Head, ME, brother Robert of Webster, NH; and sisters Maryanna Whittemore and her husband Bob of Amherst, MA, Carole Gavaghan and her husband Mike, of Lumberton, NC, and Tricia Quinn-Ortiz and her husband Milton Ortiz, of Scottsdale, AZ, as well as many other family members and friends.

Joe was a resident of Concord all his life, with the exception of the 2 years he spent in the US Army, which included a year stationed in Korea. He retired as Chief of Recreation Services for the Department of Resources and Economic Development for the state of New Hampshire. The parks and outdoor spaces he helped create and improve in that role are a fitting legacy for Joe, who had a deep, lifelong love of the natural world. He volunteered for many years at Conservation Camp at Bear Brook State park, sharing his love of the natural world with campers every summer for over 30 years. In his many years of public service he served on numerous boards and commissions, including the Wetlands Board, Conservation Commission, Five Rivers Conservation Trust, the Board of Directors for the NH Federal Credit Union, and the Parish Council at St. Peter's Church, where he was also a lector. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, he was an avid birder and member of the NH Audubon Society and 50+ year member of the Society For Protection of NH Forests and supported many environmental groups and causes. In his spare time, he enjoyed building scale models, gardening, police scanners, and shared many candlepin bowling trophies with his State Employee's league team. He was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and Celtics.
