Joe Zwack

Among the many memories I have of Joe, going back to when we were under 10 years old, is how neither of us had anything financially to start with. Joe was a true businessman who was a VERY hard worker. He was always thinking of how he could do something better than how it used to be done. He was a friend and someone we still think of often, especially when we drive by his old house at the corner of Rosedale and Adair (a home his dad built, and in which the family lived in the basement before an upper level was constructed). All good memories.

Dana Goudreau

Hello my name is Dana Goudreau, i lived in the Quad Cities for a short time when i was married to my wife Wilma L.Rios. I worked for Joe and his family for a short summer and enjoyed every moment of it. I like hearing the awesome river tail stories he used to tell and the adventures that the Celebration Belle used to take up and down the river and even go to tall stacks. I will miss you my friend and hope your in a better place and you will never be forgotten. So R.I.P angel of god fly high..

Joe Schadler will be missed by everyone who enjoys the Mississippi River. We enjoyed so many wonderful trips on the Celebration Belle locally and to Dubuque. His excellent food and great personality was a delight. We hope upon arrival in Heaven to find Joe waiting with his cinnamon rolls.

David Grass Fire Chief

The Asbury Community Fire Department would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the Schadler family. Joe left his mark on the world and even closer to our hearts. Joe faithfully gave to the community in many ways. Joe protected the community of Asbury and it's surroundings from peril with only the gratification of helping those in need during their emergency. Joe proudly served as Fire Chief for six years. He led the fire department with pride, skill and compassion. For his service, we render the final call of service for Joe. Joe will meet his fellow brotheren awaiting him. We salute Joe, his friends and especially his family.

Joe must have known we were thinking of him as we readied to travel to his services. He rewarded Asbury Fire with a quick knockdown of an occupied residential fire while keeping everyone from injury. We're mopping up now and thinking of Joe.

Even though we are unable to come to the visitation for Joe, we want you to know you are in our thoughts. We always looked forward to seeing Joe and the entire crew of the Celebration Belle and will thoroughly miss Joe's laugh, his ability to recognize return visitors, and the great hats he wore while carving the roast beef. Rest in Peace, Joe. The Mississippi River and the people that rode the Belle with you will always remember you.

Robin and family-I am so sad to hear about Joe's passing. I have so many fun and fond memories over the years working with Joe.
I always looked forward to the Spring Season knowing that the River Education Cruises were soon to start.
Numerous students/teachers through the years were fortunate to have the opportunity to learn about the "Father of Waters" from these programs. Thank You so much Joe, Robin and Scott to have the vision to provide these learning opportunities.
Before each of my programs, I always looked forward to Joe telling a joke, sharing his wide smile and laughter with me. I will hold these memories dear to my heart.
I am sure that Joe is telling jokes and sharing his wide smile and laughter to all to hear in heaven. He was truly "one of a kind" that loved his family, friends and, of course the Mighty Mississippi.
I am going to miss you!!

A friend of mine and I used to go to the "barge" that had a bar and grill about 3 to 4 times a week via boat 15-20 years ago. We got to know the bartender and he invited us to the Grand Opening. We were not made aware that this was a black tie event and showed up in our boat wear.We were spotted by a manager and told to put our food back and that we were not invited. We told the bartender what had happend and within minutes the manager came up to us and apologized followed by Joe coming up to us and apologizing saying that he was made aware that we were some of his best customers. At the time we were in our 20's yet he took the time to see us. He told us to eat all we wanted and that the bar was free to us for as long as we stayed that night. I will always remember that day because he made us fell like Kings amongst royalty! Y

Scott, Kim, and Kelly,
I am here with tears in my eyes at hearing of Joe's passing. He was truly a visionary and had the guts to act on his instincts. I had a lot of respect for him and admire the legacy he has left. I could write a book about that first year on the Queen of Hearts. One of the most memorable times in my life.
Your Dad was a special guy and impacted a lot of lives. 1984 was one year I will never forget. Tom Janes and Family

Dear Robin and Scott, we are in Florida and will be unable to attend the services for Joe. We were surpised and saddened to receive the news. It was a pleasure working with Joe over the years. He was a good friend and will missed by us, but this cannot compare to the void you will feel. Please accept our heart felt condolences and let us know if there is anything we can do. We will be in Florida until the end of March, so if you need anything checked on for your Florida property, let us know.

Everybody in the Zwack family in Dubuque extends our sympathies to Joe's family. In the late 40s and early 50s we lived only a one-minute walk "through the woods" to each other's houses. All the memories are good ones. He was always a good guy.
