I knew Joe...he wanted to be called Phillip at the time...In Holland.(USAF) He was the nicest man Ive ever known. He came to visit in NM later and told me that I had taught him to write everything down..everyone he would meet..their number their name ..what they did. He said he would use a napkin..or whatever he could find and had them tucked everywhere. He said it helped him in life to further himself. I always thought about this over the years as I thought about him many times. I was greatful that he told me that..that I had made me feel I made a positive impact on someone. I hold on to that. ..I wish I could have told him..Always a ready smile...I feel better knowing there are friendly faces waiting up there for all of us. condolences to his wife and children ..Im so sorry for your loss. I worked side-by-side with Joe as an F-15 Avionic Instructor, and we had been friends ever since. Joe was like my little Brother, we laughed so much and I have so many fond memories of him, he will be deeply missed. His love for Lisa was quite evident, she was the joy in his life and it truly changed and helped center him. He was one of my closest and dearest friends, I wish I had lived closer, but we enjoyed many a rowdy Skype video sessions. I could always count on him to make my day with a joke or funny comment. I will miss our conversations more than words could ever convey. I love you Joe, I will miss you terribly...To Joe's family who were so important to him and especially to Lisa, my heart goes out to you and I am so sorry for your/our loss.

Joe, I'm numb! I miss you. Our Lord must have needed a "hair ruffled, bedroom eyes" angel with a "cookie badge" and a great sense of humor to help him keep things straight--one who dearly loved his family! RIP SSgt Joseph P. Smith! I will always remember you.
