Joseph Alexander Stanley Jr.,age 67, went to be with the Lord on February 8, 2014. Joe was born in Jackson, Alabama on July 4, 1946. He graduated from Jackson High School and earned a degree in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. While at Auburn, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alfa fraternity. He was also a distinguished military student and was commissioned to the United States Army achieving the rank of Captain. After serving in Vietnam, he had a long career in telecommunications in Birmingham, and Baton Rouge Louisiana. Upon retirement from BellSouth, he was a personal financial consultant with Nowlin and Associates in Birmingham, Alabama. Joe was involved in his community through Leadership Vestavia Hills and the Vestavia Hills Rotary Club, of which he served as President. He was active in church, serving as a deacon at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, as a high school Sunday School teacher at Shades Mountain Baptist Church and more recently as a Stephen Minister at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Alexander Stanley, Sr., of Jackson Alabama. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Peggy, his son Hunter (Anna), his daughter Katie Cochran (Drew), and his grandsons: Alex and Jackson Stanley; Chase, Hank and Zip Cochran, all of Birmingham Alabama. He is also survived by his sister, Kay Duke (Billy) of Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He touched many lives with his unique sort of gentle strength and authenticity of which he would attribute to the love and grace given by Jesus Christ. He was humble in his understanding of that grace and the deep spiritual relationship it allowed. More than anything else, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 11, 2014 from 10 to 11:00 AM at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church with funeral services following at 11:00 AM. Burial services will be held at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Big Oak Ranch or Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.
