Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 15, 2013.

Born in Los Teques, Venezuela on November 3rd, 1919, Josephine passed away with her family by her side February 14, 2013 at her home of 53 years in Yucaipa, California. She is survived by two sons, Stuart and James and daughters-in-law, Sachiko of Poulsbo, Washington and Gianna of Yucaipa. She is preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Alvin Victor, who died in 1979.

After Alvin passed away, Josephine carried on with great courage and much love for others around her. She was an avid gardener and spent much time doing so with James and Gianna, who resided at her home. Josephine always kept busy and had many hobbies, including sewing, quilting, knitting, and oil and watercolor painting. Josephine also enjoyed spending time with her many friends. Josephine was a devout Catholic, who during her residence in Yucaipa attended Saint Francis Xavier Cabrini Church.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

My Mother-In-Law's dearest friend, and a lady the whole family loved. A very special lady whose terrific smile and wonderful personality will be missed, but we know Heaven has welcomed you, and you and Mom have lots to talk about. Keith and I both think the world of you, you've been like family.

Josie enriched my life for over forty years. She taught unconditional love by example. She was always giving, accepting, laughing, cheerful, and kind. A more accomplished knitter, seamstress or cook would be hard to find. Her date nut bread has no peer. I never have known anyone who could sew a button down shirt! Josie made the first home made french fries I had ever had. But more than anything, the smile, the bright eyes, and the good heart were brighter than any star could ever be. I will miss you and you will be in my heart forever. My love and thoughts are with the Poss clan. Love, Joycie

I'll miss Josephine's kindness. Her love of life showed in her enthusiastic voice and shining eyes as she'd describe her latest trip, to S. America, or in the US. She was young in spirit. I will miss her.

Jimmy, it's good your mom lived a good long life--I remember her smiling. In these poignant moments of reflection I hope we all can share in the hope of living our remaining years in good spirits, sowing the seeds of love, and enjoying the fruits of existence.

My dear friend Josie! So many wonderful attributes you shared with us all: your passionate love of family, avid interest in culture, cuizine, classical liturature and music; your unique sense of humor and lightning wit; your genuine self. How I shall miss your charming, chatty, intelligent letters. I am certain you are having happy conversations in Heaven and continuing to watch over your family. Peace and love surround you, Jim, Gianna, Stuart and Sachico, and your memories will bring you comfort.

I will always remember how welcoming Josephine was whenever I visited the Poss home. She always had a big smile and a compliment for me. Dinner parties were only complete with "Ma" at the table laughing and joking with everyone. She made my husband and me feel that we were part of the family. We will miss Josephine and offer our sincerest condolences to Gianna, Jimmy, Stuart and Sachiko.

We really really enjoyed spending time with your mom, she always told us interesting and amazing stories of her life. She had such pleasant manner and a sense of humor that made us laugh. We have never known anyone with such good memory and sharp mind as your mom had. We regret that we did not spend more time with her during her ordeal. We will really miss her.

Josephine:

I was blessed to know Mrs Poss over the many years I have been friends wtih Gianna. She always had a kind word to say and a beautiful smile. She visited my home not to long ago and was always interested in each animal and their story, she would speak to each one making them feel special. I admire Gianna for all the love and care + respect she gave her mother in law. She always put her first taking such good care of her. I know she is looking down thanking you Gianna for all you did for her. She is with the Lord in glory. I feel so blessed to have been able to know her.

Gods peace be with the Poss family

I felt like I had come home when I was around "Mom". I was hard of hearing too, so we both got along just fine. Her faith had set her free and she shared her joy of life with everyone around her. I was truly blessed to have known her.

When we lived in Southern California I certainly enjoyed visiting you and Gianna, but of course, Josephine! Fabric lovers seem to have a secret voice that only other fabric-oholics can hear. I know she well miss her "stash" where she is going...but she will probably start a new plastic-bin of pre-washed by God "stash".

I knew your mom only a few years after I met Joyce. She was always so kind and accepting of me and I felt that she was so sincere. She always had a smile on her face and was so joyful. I will miss seeing her when we stop by. You all were so fortunate to have had her for so long...

*** Such a nice lady, so cordial, so energetic, and so giving. She valued life and friends, and lived with a certain gusto. I will take this as a lesson and hope to live life as she did, in remembrance of her. Strength now to Jim and the family. -Jim Wood
