Josip Markovinovic Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 30, 2015.

Markovinovic, Josip 0307/1933 - 3/27/2015 SAN DIEGO -- Josip was born in Lika, Croatia and moved to Belgrade, Serbia as a young man to apprentice as a tailor. A loving husband, he married Marija in 1957 and remained married for 58 years. Together, they emigrated to the United States in 1959 and lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. where they had a tailoring, dry cleaning and retail business for 26 years. He fulfilled a lifelong dream to move to California in 1985. After moving to San Diego, Josip worked as a real estate agent for a number of years before retiring. He loved to travel, play chess and fish but most of all he loved his family. He touched so many lives with his generosity and huge heart, and will truly be missed. Josip is survived by his devoted wife, Marija, two daughters, Helen Kier (and partner Jeff Reid) and Mary Markovinovic, and four grandchildren: Laura Crutchfield, Ariana Kier, Brandon Kier and Daniel Kier. He is also survived by his brothers Ivan, Boza, Ilija and Ljubo (Dosen).

Teta Maro, Helen, and Mary:
I'm glad I had the chance to know such a wonderful man for the last 20 years of my life. I know in these last few years we haven't been able to visit because of the distance, but I think of you guys often and how your family opened your home to us. Cika Joca will be greatly missed..... I hope you three stay strong and keep all of your beautiful memories of him close to your hearts.

I inherited a dad and a mom when I became friends with Helen and Mary, and my life became richer because of this very special extended family. Josip was a dear and caring person who always welcomed me into his home, warmed me with his smile, and offered me his wisdom as he did with all of his daughters. His passing has deeply saddened me but I know that his eternal memory will forever comfort my heart when I feel his loss. Marija (Mom), Helen, Mary, Laura, Ari, Brandon, and Danny, I pray that God will bless you with His peace and comfort you through the days ahead. My love and profoundest condolences to you all!
xoxo
