Loving daughter, cousin, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. As a daughter she was an only child and close to her parents their whole lives. Her cousins were like her brothers and sister. She grew up and went to school in Woodland, Michigan. There she met her only love, Phil and spent the next few years as a Navy wife traveling with him. Once, they settled on a farm and she worked hard as a farmer's wife. Wherever they lived, in Michigan or Tucson, she was a loving wife and helped support her family. They had four children together. She was a beautiful mother, loving, understanding and supportive person. When the science teacher needed a home for the class guinea pig, she said "OK." When the class needed cookies made for a special occasion she always volunteered or was volunteered. She was very multi-talented as well. She taught ceramics in the basement of her house and made elegant hats out of pheasant feathers. She painted her own designs, created her own rugs and once won first prize at the county fair for her original wild flower arrangement. She was an accomplished seamstress. She sewed whole wedding party ensembles, maternity wardrobes, night club sequenced attire, orchestra gowns, scrubs, boat awnings, etc. etc. etc. She ran her own restaurant business (the Hungry Penguin on Speedway) and did the payroll for the family trucking company. She was organized and smart. The last half of her life she was a grandmother and a great grandmother. Along with grandpa she spent her time, cooking (big Christmas parties), baking (cookies and pies), swimming (wear those water wings), boating, water skiing, fishing, playing board games and cards with the grandkids. That time will be treasured forever. And last but not least, she was a friend. She was good friend and had good friends and she has finally been reunited with her best friend-Phil.
Joyce Elaine Born was born September 14, 1933 in Woodland, Michigan. She passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014 at her home in Tucson, Az. She is survived by her four children; Ronald (Kata) Born, Cynthia (Victor) Estrella, Vickie Lynn (Dave) Friedline and Bernice (Joe ) Nunez. She leaves sixteen loving grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
