Joyce Doris Nappen was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 10, 1928, the daughter of Irving and Lillian Jaffe. She was raised in Highland Park, NJ and graduated from Highland Park School in 1946. She earned her B.A. in education from Rutgers University. She married the love of her life, Bernie Nappen, in 1949. After many wonderful years raising her family and teaching 5th grade in Cranford, NJ, Joyce and her husband retired to Cary, NC. She was an original member of Beth Shalom synagogue. Joyce Doris Nappen was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 10, 1928, the daughter of Irving and Lillian Jaffe. She was raised in Highland Park, NJ and graduated from Highland Park School in 1946. She earned her B.A. in education from Rutgers University. She married the love of her life, Bernie Nappen, in 1949. After many wonderful years raising her family and teaching 5th grade in Cranford, NJ, Joyce and her husband retired to Cary, NC. She was an original member of Beth Shalom synagogue. Joyce enjoyed traveling to many different countries with her husband and collecting artifacts and art work that decorated her home. She loved to read and knitted many beautiful things for her family throughout the years.

Celebrating her life and cherishing her memory are her husband of 62 years, Bernard Nappen; children, Ellen Nappen of Millville, NJ, Paul Nappen and wife, Kitty of Clayton, NC, Ed Nappen and partner, John Olivio of Watchung, NJ; sister, Gladys Levinson of Del Ray Beach, FL; brother, Dr. Burton Jaffe and wife, Eleanor of Boston, MA; grandchildren, Arron Burrows, Lyna Atkinson, Angela Grone and Ashley Nappen; and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511 on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be held at the Emeth Shalom Cemetery in Pleasantville, NJ at a later date.
