Obituary

Joyce B. Underwood, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, of Otego passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, November 17, 2011. Born September 12, 1925 in Otego, she was the daughter of the late Lambert and Dorothy (Youmans) Burnside. She married Frederick I. Underwood on January 29, 1948. She loved animals, cooking, quilting and her family. She had a stand for 24 years at the Walton Fair. She will be fondly remembered for her beautiful quilts that she crafted and the countless family gatherings she hosted. Joyce B. Underwood, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, of Otego passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, November 17, 2011. Born September 12, 1925 in Otego, she was the daughter of the late Lambert and Dorothy (Youmans) Burnside.

She married Frederick I. Underwood on January 29, 1948. She loved animals, cooking, quilting and her family. She had a stand for 24 years at the Walton Fair. She will be fondly remembered for her beautiful quilts that she crafted and the countless family gatherings she hosted.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Frederick; her daughter, Dale Joyce of Unadilla; her sons, Lynn (Anne) of Maryville, TN, Ralph (Joanne) of Otego, Ross (Rosa) of Fairfax, VA, Gerald (Cynthia) of Hamlin and Scott (Charyll) of Otego; her sisters, Shirley Goebler and Audrey Howey; 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her brothers, John and Frank Burnside; and her brothers in law, Robert Goebler and Jack Howey.

Calling hours will be held at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 34 River St, Otego on Sunday 2:00 – 4:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday 10:00 am at the funeral home with Allison Jay Bookhout, Certified Lay Speaker with the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
