Juanita Parisette Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 17, 2015.

Juanita Becker Nelson Parisette passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the age of 98. She was a native of Port Neches, Texas and the only Child of Eunice Pickett and Walter J. Becker. She is preceded in death by her parents and both of her husbands, Robert W. Nelson and Don Parisette. She is survived by her daughter Kristi Nelson Turney and husband Edwin of Friendswood, Texas; grandson David Turney and wife Malia of Nixa, Missouri; granddaughter Melissa Turney Ross and husband Paul of Conway, Arkansas. She also leaves behind five great-grandchildren; Tyler Allgood and wife Samantha of Conway, Arkansas; Jacob Turney, Joshua Turney, Cristina Turney, and Josiah Turney of Nixa, Missouri; two great-great-grandchildren Troy Hendrix and Alexea Allgood of Conway, Arkansas. She will also be missed by stepdaughters Tempe Parisette Walsh of Rockport, Texas and her family as well as Annette Parisette Allen of Magnolia, Texas and her family. Music was a constant thread that has run through Juanita's life. As a teenager in the 1930's she hosted a radio show in Beaumont, Texas where she played the piano and talked about music much to the delight of her listening audience. Then, as a runner-up in a mid-1930's Miss Texas pageant, she charmed the audience and judges with her musical talent. In 1938 Juanita married Robert W. Nelson and left Texas for a new life in upstate New York. Their adventure was cut short by World War II at which time she and Bob moved back to Texas. They spent the war years in Orange, Texas where Bob served in the Navy as a mechanical engineer and helped to oversee the building of battle ships in Todd and Livingston Shipyards located in Orange. They remained there until 1948 when they and their young daughter moved to Houston. Once Kristi was in school, Juanita embarked on a residential real estate career that was to span over 40 years until her retirement. She was an active member of the Houston Board of Realtors and the Women's Council of Realtors. In the 1970's Juanita began a second "career" as the pianist for the Harrisburg Rotary Club. This career was to last over 20 years during which she made many lifelong friends. In addition to providing the musical accompaniment for meetings, she was honored to become the club's first female member and also a Paul Harris Fellow. Juanita's family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Colonial Oaks in Pearland for over 5 years of loving, compassionate care through the end of her life. The family would also like to express their gratitude and love to Daura Tezeno for more than 25 years of unconditional love, friendship and companionship that saw Juanita through the loss of her husband Don in 1990, helped Juanita to create a new life in her beloved downtown Houston high-rise where she lived comfortably and independently for many joyous years before moving to Colonial Oaks in October 2009 and then remaining steadfastly at her side until her passing. In the last few weeks, as Juanita approached the end of her life, the staff of A-Med Community Hospice gave her the gift of peace and comfort for which the family will always be grateful. A private family interment will be held at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston, Texas and will be followed by a visitation on April 10, 2015 from 5 pm to 7 pm for her many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Juanita's name be made to the Houston Hospice or the Harrisburg Rotary Club Scholarship Fund.
