Obituary

Judith S. Campbell, age 61, died peacefully at her home in Parkton, Maryland on July 9, 2012 after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Judith S. Campbell, age 61, died peacefully at her home in Parkton, Maryland on July 9, 2012 after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Judith, a lifelong resident of Baltimore County, was a very active member of her community – seeking to help others with afflictions not otherwise treatable by conventional medicine.

Early in her career, Judith was one of only a few, and perhaps the first woman in the country, licensed as a commodity futures broker. During that time, she was one of the first employees at Baltimore's Campbell & Company, now one of the largest futures trading advisors in the world.

After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1988, Judith began teaching as a holistic health care consultant, and formed Health Awareness, a non-profit organization whose mission was to educate the public about holistic modalities, such as acupuncture and meditation, that could be used to complement conventional medical treatments. In 1996 she was hired by the St. Joseph Medical Center to establish one of the first hospital-based holistic wellness centers in the country, The Center for Health Enhancement.

Consistently focused on ways she could help others, Mrs. Campbell went on to create non-profit entities such as The Campbell Foundation for Children and SpiritWorks. She found great joy and personal fulfillment in her work.

Mrs. Campbell is survived by her husband of 32 years, Kevin; her daughter, Alison Miller; son, Justin Campbell; stepdaughter, Andrea Proffitt; grandson, Reid Miller; her sister, Deborah Keller of Ocean Pines Maryland; and her brother, Richard Sheffield of Winchester, Virginia.

Services and interment are private.
