Judith Mills Edwards Collins woke up in heaven Sunday, December 1, 2013. Her only son, Mark, had come home last week from Virginia to be with her in her final days.

Judith was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 13, 1931 to Captain Donald Lewis Mills, USN, and Helen Susan McDaniel, both of Russiaville, Indiana. Besides living in New Orleans and Fort Wayne, Judith followed her father's career in naval aviation to Arlington, VA, Honolulu, HI, Patuxent River, MD, Glenview, IL, Norfolk, VA and Miramar, CA.

Judith first attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, then a private college preparatory school. In 1953 she earned a BA in Art History from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where she was a proud member of Delta Gamma Sorority and was past president of the Sigma chapter. In 1972 Judith received a Masters Degree in Education from Indiana University.

Her first job after college was with Trans World Airlines (TWA) as a stewardess where she worked for the Howard Hughes owned company as flight crew on the airlines' new fleet of Lockheed Super Constellation airliners in the "golden age" of air travel. In 1970 Judith went back to work as an elementary educator, teaching second grade in the FWCS at Indian Village Elementary School until 1995 where she taught hundreds of children and made many of her best, lifelong friends.

Judith moved to Fort Wayne in 1956 and came to love the city and all it had to offer; especially the arts, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and the wonderful concerts, musicals, operas and plays at The Embassy Theatre and The Scottish Rite Auditorium. She also loved the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo and took her two grandchildren there many times.

In Fort Wayne Judith was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Fort Wayne Junior League, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the Fort Wayne Art League and St. Barbara's Guild.

Judith had many interests besides the arts and humanities. She enjoyed world travel, reading, fashion, aviation, and watching the Northwestern Wildcats, Navy Midshipman and Indiana Hoosiers. She loved animals very much, especially her familys' collies, and regularly supported animal welfare organizations. She was also a regular supporter of the US Olympic teams.

Judith was fiercely patriotic due to her familys' service in the US Navy and was very proud of our country and our armed forces, especially naval aviation. Her father had commanded the initial air search for Amelia Earhart when she became missing. Judith always flew the American flag on federal holidays.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Helen, father, Donald and brother, Don Mills, Jr. She is also preceded in death by her former husband, Oren Lee Collins, also of Fort Wayne.

She is survived and will be missed greatly by her sister, Janet Keck of Wauwatosa, WI, her son, Mark C. Edwards of Winchester, Virginia and twin grandsons, Christian and Hunter Edwards also of Winchester, VA. She is also survived by her first husband, George Edwards and her step-daughter, Kelly Collins Zachrich, also of Fort Wayne.

Memorial Services will be held Friday 11 A.M. at Trinity Episcopal Church 611 W. Berry St. where friends may call one hour prior to the services.
