Julia O'Neil Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 15, 2017.

Julia grew up in Herminie, PA. She attended Pittsburgh School of Nursing, married Don O’Neil and had 6 children together. She worked night shifts as a nurse so she would be available to her family during the day. She volunteered at church and was always there for any friends or family who needed her. She made time for lots of game-playing with her family. Holidays were special, especially Christmas. She made Christmas magical for her children and continued to do so for her grandchildren in her later years after moving to Florida and living in Palm Valley in Oviedo.

She was a “second mother” to her children's friends and spouses. She loved people of all ages and personalities. She enjoyed life and getting to know people.

At the same time, she continued to pursue her career as a nurse which spanned nearly 40 years including emergency rooms and operating rooms. When asked how do you do that—taking care of the wounded, bleeding or burned, she replied, “I only thought about how I could make them feel comfortable.” She also answered the call from many close family friends to nurse their very ill or dying loved ones.

Julia cared for her own aging parents and her mother-in-law. She took care of her husband who became disabled early in life until his death over 20 years ago. She provided a selfless, care-giving example to her own children—a gift that would one day be returned to her through them as they cared for her when her health declined. She is survived by a sister, Rita Campoli in Kentucky, 6 children, Marty O’Neil (Dora), Maureen Copeland (Larry), Collette O'Neil, Colleen Leonard (George), Don O’Neil (Mary) and Kathy Reidelbach (Mike) and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews. She celebrated her 90th birthday on Easter Sunday. She is loved dearly and will be missed by all!

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions, in her memory, to Hospice of the Comforter, 605 Montgomery Rd., Altamonte Springs, Fl 32714
