Julia E. Jimenez was born on April 12, 1926 on the island of Puerto Rico. She was the fourth child of Jose Colon and Carmen Rivera Colon. Julia had three sisters (Carmen, Olga and Elba) and two brothers (Pablo and Luis). Her father, Jose, was a police officer who was killed in the line of duty when Julia was ten years old. They faced hardship being raised by a single mother. But Carmen wanted all of her children to get a college education and they did. Julia became an Elementary School Teacher. She met and married Victor Jimenez in 1947. They welcomed their first child, Victor in 1948. Julia had six children. She left Puerto Rico in 1952 seeking a better life for her children. She moved her family into a tenement apartment but they were not there long. Through hard work, Julia and Victor, Sr. were able to move their family to a single family home in Queens, New York. When her husband retired they moved back to a home in Puerto Rico. She loved the island and told her children that often. Julia and Victor loved to dance and did so at the Senior Citizen Dances in Puerto Rico. In her youth, Julia learned how to sew, crochet, and was an excellent cook. All meals served to her family were home cooked.
Her husband, Victor, passed away on December 13, 2008. This proved to be very difficult for Julia as the decease of Alzheimer's began to enter her life. She passed away on March 21, 2014.
Julia is survived by six her children and their spouses, Victor and Micaelle, Ada and Wayne, Elizabeth and Dany, Frank and Jeannie, Carmen and John, Jose and Soraya, eleven grandchildren, David, Danny, Randi, Frank, Tania, Eric, Andrew, Bryan, Matthew, Brandon and Amy, eight great grandchildren, Arden, Paige, David, Jr., August, Nicholas, Santino, Jolene and Mathaius.
She has always believed that to live a happy life you must practice four things – faith, family, friendship and forgiveness.
She was a devout catholic who believed in daily prayer and loved to say the rosary.
She always believed in being positive and smiling through adversity.
A great mother who sacrificed to ensure that her children were properly cared for and loved. We will miss her tremendously.
