A native and long time resident of Baton Rouge, and a retired Ethyl Corporation chemist, Dr. Honeycutt died on August 5th, 2012 in Baton Rouge after a brief illness. He was born in the Gesell home on Somerulous St. in downtown Baton Rouge on November 8, 1923. He was proud of being a Texas Aggie, Class of 1945, and a US Army veteran with service in the Southwest Pacific during World War II as a 1st Lieutenant in the Chemical Warfare Service, primarily on Luzon, Philippines. After service he returned to college and received a B.S. in Chemistry from Southern Methodist University, and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Iowa State College. He retired in 1989 after thirty-two years in Ethyl's Research and Development Department.
Julian is survived by his daughter, Katherine Honeycutt Graybill and her husband, Arthur Graybill, from Marrero, LA; his son John David Honeycutt and his wife Stephanie Duke Honeycutt of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by 5 grandsons, David Allan Loesch and wife, Franni Braus Loesch of Scott, LA; Arthur (Chip) Eldred Graybill, III; Brett Darrell Graybill, both of Marrero; and John Keating Honeycutt of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Lauren Hughes Honeycutt of Baton Rouge; and great grandchildren, Julian D. Loesch; Jade E. Loesch; MacKenzie Beard; and Kendall Beard; and a sister, Lucille Honeycutt McElroy of Arlington, TX.
Julian was preceded in death by his parents, Julian B. Honeycutt and Willie Mina Gesell Honeycutt; his first wife, Dorothy Ann Keating Honeycutt; his second wife, Carolyn Magee Honeycutt; a daughter, Julie Ann Honeycutt Loesch, and son, George Keating Honeycutt.
He was an active member and officer in the Baton Rouge Texas A&M Club, the Louisiana Genealogical & Historical Society, the Baton Rouge Genealogical & Historical Society, and a long-time usher at Broadmoor United Methodist Church where he was also a member and frequent teacher of the Lamplighters Sunday School Class; and an Emeritus Member of the American Chemical Society, serving as Chairman of the Baton Rouge section for one year. In addition to these activities, he enjoyed family life, golf, and travel. His favorite vacation spot was Sanibel Island, Florida where he spent time most summers since 1960.

Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 from 5-8 pm and will resume Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Dr. from 9 am until religious services at 11 am.
