Junius (Jim) Stewart Romney
1932 – 2012
Junius (Jim) Stewart Romney passed away from natural causes on Saturday, December 29, 2012. He was born on April 30, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Junius Stowell and Ruth Stewart Romney. He attended East High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree of Architecture from the University of Utah. He also served in the Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base in California. He married Carole Bowden on April 12, 1955 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. They raised their family in Holladay, Utah, and lived for 50 years in a home that Jim designed and they both completed. For 25 years, Jim worked in several architecture offices, including Campus Planning at the University of Utah. He was then self-employed for an additional 25 years. He was always faithful in the LDS Church in many callings, including Stake Clerk, Bishopric, Ward Clerk, teaching, scouting, and temple attendance. He had an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was always in close contact with his family. He enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, and other activities at the family ranch in Woodland, Utah. He also enjoyed reading, skiing, tennis, and gardening. Carole preceded him in death on July 17, 2006. Jim and Carole were blessed with six children: Cathie Carlson, Stephen Romney (Kari), Daniel Romney (Diane), Laurel Maurer (Mike), Karen Romney, and Elizabeth Pierce (Jeff); 23 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He had a close relationship with his three brothers: Joseph Barnard Romney (Florence), Bruce Stewart Romney (Carol Jean), and David Stewart Romney (Patricia).

Jim was one of my favorite people. I spend a lot of time in the Romney home and at the ranch and he always treated me with great kindness. May each family member be comforted and know you will see this great man again. Rick Glauser

Jim and Carole Romney were dear friends,of the same college fraternity (Pi Kappa Alpha) and sorority(Delta Delta Delta) as Janet and I, and were married one day after we were. Fond memories of a happy friendship. Jim is solid gold, one who was always deeply admired. He has left me now, the last of the four of us. Ray Gardiner.
