Kamla attended Dudley High School in Suva, Fiji and was educated as a nurse in New Zealand. After starting her nursing career in New Zealand, she moved back to Fiji and worked for Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. She then moved to the U.S. and worked as a nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. After moving to Portland, Oregon to find a milder climate, she started at Multnomah County Hospital, and later at Valley Medical Clinic. Then in 1962, she returned to New Zealand to marry Bhawar Singh in Mosgiel, New Zealand. They came back to Portland and started building their life together. Once the family started to grow, she left her nursing career and devoted her time to raising her family. Kamla enjoyed travel, especially to Hawaii, Mexico, and Europe, as well as driving trips around the US and journeys back to New Zealand; gardening (flowers and vegetables), and collecting "snow village" houses. Above all, she enjoyed any time spent with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bhawar Singh; three children, Vijay, Veena, and Vinod Singh; four grandchildren Christina, Dominic, Killian, and Cordelia; and two sisters, Lila Kumar in Fiji and Lolita Rice in San Jose; and a brother Mike Mahendrar Singh in Portland.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sat., Mar. 29 at 2 PM at Oak Hills Christian Reformed Church, 2800 NW 153rd Ave. in Beaverton. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to , American Kidney Foundation, or a charity of choice.
