Karen Faye Hayes, age 71 of rural West Salem, IL passed into Eternity on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at her home. Karen was born September 14, 1941 in Albion, IL to Rowena (Smith) and James Colbert. She married Robert "Bob" Hayes on May 17, 1958 at the Marion Christian Church in rural West Salem. Karen was a homemaker, who also retired after working 25 years for Champion Laboratory. She had a variety of interests during her lifetime that included membership in the Women of the Moose and the Hillbilly Clan #39. Karen Faye Hayes, age 71 of rural West Salem, IL passed into Eternity on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at her home.
Karen was born September 14, 1941 in Albion, IL to Rowena (Smith) and James Colbert.
She married Robert "Bob" Hayes on May 17, 1958 at the Marion Christian Church in rural West Salem.
Karen was a homemaker, who also retired after working 25 years for Champion Laboratory.
She had a variety of interests during her lifetime that included membership in the Women of the Moose and the Hillbilly Clan #39. She attended the Marion Christian Church, she enjoyed the outdoors and activities such as camping and tending to her flowers. Her family was her supreme enjoyment.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Sandy, one brother, Larry and an infant brother.
She is survived by her husband of just over 55 years, Bob Hayes of rural West Salem, three daughters: Cindy (Loren) Pollard of Albion, Susan Gillette of Mt. Carmel, IL and Vickie (Brad) Leigh of West Salem. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Carissa (Jarod) Weaver of Albion, Jason Pollard of Albion, Haley Shaw of West Salem, Holly Gillette of Mt. Carmel, Hannah Gillette of Mt. Carmel, 3 great-grandchildren: Peyton Fallen, Jaron Weaver, Ashlyn Weaver and Baby Brenton, soon to arrive. Karen is also survived by 2 brothers: Dale (Sue) Colbert and Jack (Tammy) Colbert, all of Albion. Her poodle, Billy Ray was also an important part of her life's enjoyment.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 10AM, Friday, May 24th, 2013 at Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem, IL, with Pastor Gavin Bellinger officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, May 23rd, 2013 at the funeral home.
Memorials may take the form of donations to either the Marion Christian Church or the Macedonia Cemetery.
