Karl Arceneaux Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 30, 2012.

NEW IBERIA – Funeral services will be celebrated for Karl J. Arceneaux, Sr., age 75, on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Fr. Gene Tremie, pastor of St. Marcellus Catholic Church, will officiate. Karl will be laid to rest at 1:30 pm in the Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary, LA with full military honors by the Navy.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia on Monday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday from 8:00 am until services.

Karl was born June 29, 1937 in Weeks Island, LA to Harry Arceneaux, Sr. and Irene Pichoff Arceneaux, and passed away peacefully just hours after his 75th birthday on Saturday, June 30, 2012. He was retired from the United States Navy as a Radioman Petty Officer 1st Class with over 20 years of service to his country.

Karl loved to travel and saw much of the United States and visited abroad as well. He was a wood craftsman, collected model trains, and was an excellent artist (with many of his paintings adorning the walls of his home). He was a kind man with a joking spirit, and loved being with family and friends. He leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of five years, Helen Broussard Arceneaux of New Iberia; two children, Kirt Arceneaux and Dearyl Lynn Arceneaux both of Harvey; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; five step-children, Lauralee Migues and husband Shannon of New Iberia, Mark Ridge of New Iberia, Eddie Ridge and wife Carolyn of Mandeville, Brad Ridge and wife Susan of Scott, and Debbie Burke and husband Joe of Youngsville; 5 step-grandchildren; and his sisters, Juanita Motika of San Antonio and Elsie Savin of New Iberia..

He was preceded in death by two sons, Karl (Chip) Arceneaux, Jr. and James Ray Arceneaux; a grandchild, Kayla Arceneaux; his first wife, Elodie Hamilton Arceneaux; parents, Harry and Irene Arceneaux, Sr.; a step-brother, Tony Arceneaux; and a step-sister, Elizabeth Pichoff.

Pallbearers will be members of the family and friends.

Karl was a loving father and husband and his sense of humor always made everyone around him happy. I was his son Chips girlfriend for a few years and he always made me feel like part of the family. It is with great sadness that I heard of his passing. My thoughts will be with his family.

To Karl's sisters, I'm very sorry about the loss of your brother. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. You won't recognize my name, so I will tell you that I am the widow of one of your cousins, Ralph F. Pichoff, who just passed away this past November. I know you are related but I can't say how. His father's name was Edwin W. Pichoff, and brothers living are Darrel and Charles. Sisters who passed away: Linda (Sis) Simoneaux, Carol Jane Pichoff, and brothers who passed away are Morris (Jim), Edwin (Man) Pichoff. Ralph's mom was Mae Landry Pichoff Hamm. Please tell me how they were related if you can......

I grew up without a dad but this man has made up for that in the past 5 years. He was a wonderful husband to my mom and step father to me. He was always joking and smiling and never went without telling how beautiful he thought I was and how much he loved me. He has made my mother so extremely happy these past 5 years, happier than I have seen her in a long time. We know now he isn't sick anymore and that he is in heaven with the angels. He will be greatly missed and NEVER forgotten. I will miss you Karl, you were one of a kind.

. For the past 5 years I've learned to love this man as if he was my birth father. He never went without telling me he loved me every time we spoke. I know he is at peace now and not sick anymore and that he is in heaven with the angels just as he was one. He will never be forgotten. I still can't believe he's gone. Karl was one of a kind.
