Katherine Cooper Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 16, 2015.

Cooper, Katherine Lea, passed away July 10, 2015 at her home in Festus, MO. She was born July 21, 1963 in Morristown, Tennessee.

She is survived by her father William C. Cooper and brother William S. Cooper.

She graduated from Midland Valley High School in Aiken County, SC and was the Drum Major for two years for football games. Seeing her dressed out and knowing that she was in total control was so exciting. Marching down the field in her beautiful band uniform and seeing her arms waving in the air was special. She was in control, I'd say.

Kathy got into a school music program and played the clarinet. She attended several music camps at Furman University in Greenville, SC and University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC.

Upon graduation from High School, she attended Aiken Technical College with classes in Paralegal Law and Radiation Safety Technician for which was her main source of income for many years.

She attempted work in the Paralegal field, but immediately determined that it was not her thing and moved Cary , North Carolina and was employed by Carolina Power & Light Company.

She later decided to go into the Rent-A-Tech program as a Radiation Safety Technician working nuclear power outages. All Nuclear Power Plants were required to perform Maintenance every twelve months. They usually lasted for several weeks and so she was required to travel from plant to plant. She so enjoyed the work, After a work injury in Washington State, she became limited to work due to her medical problems. At that time she lived in San Clemente, CA.

She eventually returned to Raleigh, NC and worked Nuclear Outages across America, ended up moving back to her home base in South Carolina eventually moving to Festus, MO for her job.

Katherine always wanted more education and was an avid book person. She so loved her reading.

Katherine graduated from North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina December 8, 2001 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts (Justice Studies – Transfer Honors).

Katherine was an avid lover of cats and volunteered at her local shelters in several locations of her travels. She did do volunteer work at the shelter in Raleigh, North Carolina.

From Penny McCleary in Virginia a friend of over 20 years:
Kathy was one of the most loyal people I have ever known. During the 20 + years that she has been my friend, she loved me unconditionally. But she still set me straight. "You know you are being stubborn. Cut your husband some slack,"

Kathy's challenges got in the way of her potential. I could see her beauty, her wit, her gifts and her abilities. Kathy could not always find this in herself
Kathy was one of the most considerate people I knew. When I brought my adopted son home, she was over with books and the most thoughtful gift - Spiderman pajamas! he loved them!
Kathy loved to wrap presents and write notes. I have kept many of her little notes.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 10am in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1000 McNutt School Rd., Herculaneum, MO 63048. Please share memories and condolences at www.hoffmeistercolonial.com

Mr.Cooper....you don't know me and I didn't know your daughter. The reason for this message is because I had no other way of contacting you. I purchased a briefcase today and in it was some personal information belonging to your daughter. The items are a photo copy of her birth certificate, SS card, and passport. I put her name on a Google search and this listing came up. I am so very sorry for your loss and hate to bother you at this time, but I'd like to know if you'd like these items back or if you'd like them destroyed. You are also more than welcome to the briefcase if you'd like it. Please feel free to call, text, or email me at the number below. I will pray for you and yours to find peace in this difficult time. Again I'm sorry for your loss.

Kathy was a wonderful , smart , friend with a fantastic sense of humor. We became friends almost instantly when we met at Port St Lucie years ago. She was always up for a girlfriend chat and her generous spunk was readily apparent .We shared many laughs as well as tears together. Jim and I offer our deepest sympathy and most heartfelt prayers to both Mr Cooper and Scott. Kathy(Kat)Reid &James(Jim)Oglesby Hudson Florida

Kathy was such a dear friend to me. Since we met in early 2014, we connected immediately. She sure had a big heart. I remember one day she came over to my home with a beautiful bouquet of flowers for me. It was such a sweet gift. She always had something beautiful to give. She enjoyed talking about politics. She was very knowledgeable and always had an educated opinion to share. Kathy enjoyed traveling and seeing the world. She loved books and serving others. She was a dear friend and one that truly knew how to love others unconditionally. Kathy, you will always have a special place in my heart, my dear friend, Kathy. Your eternal friend, Katherine

When my son and I moved back home to Missouri a year ago, Kathy Cooper was one of the Sweet Ladies that came the day we unloaded the truck to "Welcome us to Imperial" and our New Ward. She was Delightful.. During this year I have greatly enjoyed hearing her stories and enjoying her 'Sweet Spirit'. Blessings to her family at this time and may we all embrace the "Celebration' as she returns home to our Heavenly Father.

All these years you were the one and only true friend I've stayed in touch with. You've always listened and gave me perspective. I could only hope, I was half the friend you were. Will always miss you and probably never fill the void, but will always keep you in my heart.
