FORT WORTH -- Katherine Louise Myers, 99, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at her home.
Services will be held in the chapel at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Church at 2024 S. Collins in Arlington on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
She was an amazing woman, beloved by all who knew her. She was courageous in adversity, generous to all, and unfailingly cheerful. She loved all animals especially her dogs, her baby chickens, the hummingbirds which fed outside her window, and her swans and geese. She loved shopping and parties, and everyone loved her.
Kay was born in Butler, Pennsylvania, on January 28, 1913, into a musical family. She played the violin and piano, and she and her sisters sang on the radio as "The Dale Sisters." As a young woman she worked in Washington, D.C., at the Dept. of Agriculture and at the Washington Post.
In 1936 she married Joseph H. Gaylord, Jr., and they moved to Fort Worth, with their children, Susan, Judy, and John. Then in 1950 they bought a place "in the country." It was a truly wonderful place to raise a family -- with a lake, horses, cattle, chickens, a donkey, even pigs -- and, of course, dogs and cats.
After her husband Joe and son John were killed in a boating accident in 1952, she met and married Stanford L. Myers in 1954. She was blessed with a "second family" -- son Stephen and daughter Laury. By this time, that wonderful place in the country had been gobbled up by the city. Stan, who had started his own successful oil exploration company (He built it!), also built K-Mar Mobile Home Park so that Kay would have a continuing source of income. It, also, was very successful.
In 1985 she went on a three-week bus tour of Europe. The trip was made more memorable to her family back at home in that it happened during the TWA hostage crisis, something of which Kay was blissfully unaware.
After Stan's death in 1993, Kay spent the next 19 years surrounded by her loving family in her country house.
In 2009, at the age of 96, she went on an Alaskan cruise featuring Bill & Gloria Gaither's Homecoming crew, and spent a wonderful week surrounded by beautiful scenery and Christian people, mostly of her own generation -- truly "The Greatest Generation."
She is preceded in death by husband, Stanford L. Myers; daughter, Laury Ann Johnson; first husband, Joseph H. Gaylord Jr.; and son, John A. Gaylord; brothers, Alfred H. Gumpper and Richard V. Gumpper; and sisters Betty Hocker and Ada McDonnell.
Survivors: Brother, John W. Gumpper; sister, Evelynita Illsley Welsh; daughters, Susan Gaylord Buxton and Judith K. Gaylord; son, Stephen A. Myers and wife Laura; son-in-law Bill Johnson; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild to arrive soon, and dozens of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Jennifer McLemore and Aletha McGowan for their loving care of our mother.

"The classiest woman I have ever known. She knew how to love and be loved and was an incredible role model. Heaven has truly gained a unique soul. I will..." Thresa Cunningham-Bailey (Spiro, OK)
