Kathleen Anne Acton "Nana" Longtime McLean resident and native of Southern California, Kathleen Anne Acton (fondly known as "Nana"), passed away the morning of August 23, 2013 after a long-term illness. She is survived by her dedicated and loving husband Richard Louis Acton; her five children, Charles Acton, Daniel Acton, Matthew Acton, Kathleen Groll, and Amy Gilbody; and fifteen grandchildren and great grandchildren, Marie, Leah, Justin, Nic, Jackie, Kaitlin, Allie, Katie, Reilly, Jake, Annie, Mattie, Lily, Hunter, and Emi. "Nana"

Longtime McLean resident and native of Southern California, Kathleen Anne Acton (fondly known as "Nana"), passed away the morning of August 23, 2013 after a long-term illness. She is survived by her dedicated and loving husband Richard Louis Acton; her five children, Charles Acton, Daniel Acton, Matthew Acton, Kathleen Groll, and Amy Gilbody; and fifteen grandchildren and great grandchildren, Marie, Leah, Justin, Nic, Jackie, Kaitlin, Allie, Katie, Reilly, Jake, Annie, Mattie, Lily, Hunter, and Emi. She loved spending with them all. Kathleen was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on February 7, 1936, and lived most of her adult life in Placentia, California before moving to Virginia in 1999. She was a devoted member of the Catholic Church, and served as the Director of Religious Education at St. Joseph's Catholic School in Placentia. She also served as the Comptroller at La Habra travel, and worked early in her career as an office administrator at Rockwell International. During her retirement she enjoyed serving the Church and working her hobbies which included collecting Pfaltzgraff china, cross-stitching, cooking, and documenting her family's genealogy. Cruising and travel were among her many passions and she proudly completed over 35 cruises during her lifetime. She additionally enjoyed spending time at her summer vacation home right on the Potomac River at Colonial Beach and puzzling over crosswords, which she continued to complete daily in ink right up to her final days. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to: The Institute of Catholic Culture, PO Box 10101, McLean VA 22102 (www.instituteofcatholicculture.org). A memorial service is planned for 2pm Saturday October 12th at Holy Transfiguration Church, 8501 Lewinsville Road, McLean VA 22102.
