Kathleen Mathis Kinstler passed away on July 17, 2014 in Tigard, OR at the age of 83.

Kathy was born October 9, 1930 in Eagleville, Missouri to Carl and Bess (Holloway) Mathis. Because of her father's failing health, the farm on which she was born and raised was sold when she was 15, and she along with her parents moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she attended Manual High School. After graduating in 1947, she worked as a switchboard operator for Aetna Insurance Company, where she met her husband, Carl Theodore Kinstler, Jr. and on June 9, 1950 they were married. After the birth of their second child, they moved to Denver, Colorado. They later lived in Montana, and settled in the Beaverton, Oregon area in 1967.

Kathy was raised in the Reorganized Latter-Day Saints church, joining the Episcopalian church after her marriage. She worked at Sears, Roebuck and Company for over 20 years, starting in their catalog department in Eugene, Oregon and upon moving back to the Portland area, as a switchboard operator for the large Sears retail store in Tigard. She retired from Sears in 1994 and then worked in data entry for Utah Home Insurance, retiring for good in 1995 to travel with her husband and friends.

Kathy was a huge hockey fan, and enjoyed many other sports as well. She loved to read, was an English history buff, and was a member of the Heritage Genealogy Society. She had traced her family tree back to the Revolutionary War. She also had a large collection of travel spoons.

Mrs. Kinstler was preceded in death by her husband C. Ted Kinstler, Jr in 2007, and by their son Gary G. Kinstler in 1972.

She is survived by a daughter, Connie Fischer and husband Mark of Tigard, OR,
and a son, Rick Kinstler of Denver, CO; and by four grandchildren.

A funeral service will take place at Pegg, Paxson and Springer Funeral Chapel in Beaverton on Wednesday, September 23, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22 from 5-8 PM at Pegg, Paxson and Springer. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cat Adoption Team, 14175 SW Galbreath Dr, Sherwood, OR 97140, or to a local animal charity of choice would be appreciated by Kathy's family.
