Obituary

Loving mother and grandmother, surrounded by her family at her home, left us to join those who preceded her in death on March 15, 2013, at the age of 76. Kathleen was born September 17, 1936 in New Kensington, PA to Edward and Ethel (Nagy) Beattie. She attended Ken High School in New Kensington, PA; received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh, received her Master's degree at Miami of Ohio, and also attended Michigan State University. She retired from Okemos Public Schools as a Middle School teacher. Kathleen was a member of the DAR, enjoyed playing bridge, and was a fan of the Detroit Tigers and the MSU Spartans....

Kathleen was a super star mom and grandma. She is preceded in death by sister, Diane Beattie, brother, Donald Beattie and her parents. Surviving are her husband, Howard; daughter Teah (Kirk) Bankes, son Jack (Becky) Weyers, and two grand children, Merritt Bankes and Magritte Bankes. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 24, 2013, 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing. No funeral service will be held. Contributions may be made to the , Michigan Great Lakes Chapter, 310 N. Main, Suite 100, Chelsea, MI 48118, or Okemos Public Schools Foundation, 4406 Okemos Road, Okemos, MI, 48864, in memory of Kathleen.
