Kathy was born Dec. 23, 1941, the ninth of twelve children born to Martha and George Votruba of Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Her early days were spent on a dairy farm. Despite being sickly as a child, due to a heart condition, she graduated from Holy Trinity Grade School in Haugen and Rice Lake High School. Kathy and John were together for 40 years, and married over 37. She always told John that she was, "the best thing that ever happened to him," and he still agrees.

Kathy began her Federal service career in 1975 working as a clerk-typist for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. She retired in 2003, from the Defense Logistics Agency as a Program Analyst in charge of Training and Travel.

Kathy was an active member of St. Thomas More and a volunteer worker for the American Heart Association. She loved to travel, visiting most of Europe and exploring the United States with her husband and son.

Kathy is survived by her husband John, their son, John Jr. and his husband Shane Spindle, her best friend Nancy Mulry, and her siblings, Lorraine Livingston, Mary Anne Charron, Thomas Votruba, Frances Votruba, Ruth Brandt, Charles Votruba, and Edward Votruba.
