Kathy Marlene Johnston, born May 27, 1953 in San Diego, California, passed away September 4, 2011 in Houston, Texas. "The artist's life well-lived embraces the spiritual, the natural, and the quiet beauty of the unseen." Kathy's talents and creativity spanned her love of photography, her passion for music, and her compassion for people.
Kathy is survived by her loving wife, Dianna Ray; mother, Reba Johnston; sister, Candace Nelson and husband, Keith; nephew, Kevin Hooker and wife, Caroline; brother-in-law, Eddie Ray, and by numerous other family and friends.
Kathy's energy went to, and came from, giving. It's unimaginable how one life could cross so many boundaries and touch the spirit of so many people. Her compassion and love transformed lives. May we carry that spirit forward in her honor.
A memorial service celebrating Kathy's life will be held from 2:00–3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Lamba Center, 1201 West Clay Street, Houston, Texas 77019. A reception will follow in the home of Debbie Murphy, 502 Avondale, Houston, Texas 77006. Please send any floral tributes to Debbie Murphy's home. Memorial donations may be made to Girls Rock Camp Houston, or the Leukemia- Lymphoma Society.
Arrangements under the direction of Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Boulevard, Houston, Texas.

Kathy a couple of people at your memorial talked about your sense of humor and I have to agree with them. You and your humor will be missed. Dennis said what he remembers most about you was you were always laughing.

Dear Dianna,
I was shocked to receive Cherry's email about Kathy's death. When I think of Kathy, I see her smile and her energy at the LLS Support Meetings. The obituary was beautifully written and the pictures were great. Seeing each other at support meetings, we never know a lot about life outside our illnesses. It was wonderful to learn about Kathy's love of music and photography. Jim joins me in sending our deepest sympathy to you and the rest of Kathy's family. She will be missed.
Sincerely,
Pat

Dianna,
I'm so so sad. Although it's been a long time since we all got together, the two of you touched me in ways that are difficult to articulate. Kathy was a light in the life of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. I send you my love and hope that sweet memories will help you through your sorrow.

Dianna, I pray that your and Kathy's family will find peace and comfort during this difficult time. Kathy will always have a place in my heart for many reasons, but mostly for being so generous, and so fearless. I will really miss her big, hearty laugh. Love you very much.
