Katie Griffin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2016.

Katie Lou Phillips Griffin was called to the Kingdom of Heaven on Tuesday, October 11, 2016.
Katie was born into a large family on July 16, 1930, and earned the nickname "Runt" from her father because she was the smallest of nine brothers and sisters. She graduated from Matthews High School where she was a cheerleader.

In her adult years, Katie worked in various fields to include working as a Bell Telephone operator and a nurse's aide caring for elderly adults. Katie never grew out of her diminutive size and was known to all as a sweet, caring, and loving lady with the patience of Job. She always had pets to spoil rotten and loved to feed the squirrels bits of her peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Katie was preceded in death by her mother and father, Leona and Vernon Phillips as well as most of her brothers and sisters, leaving behind a sister, Ruth, and brother, Claude. Katie lost her husband of 51 years, Ralph, when he was called Home in 2010. Katie is survived by sons, Jeff Ward of Monroe, and Chuck Griffin (Yvonne) of Saint Augustine, FL, and step-children Judy Griffin and Chris Griffin (Vickie). Katie also has numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren as well as dozens of nieces and nephews who will keep her in their hearts for years to come.

I remember Katie (and Ralph) from being their neighbor when they were on Cranberry Creek Road in Scottville. Katie was a sweet and cherished friend of my Mom, Myrtle Fender. She and Ralph were both very sweet and helpful to my Mom after my father's death. They were always there when she needed anything at all. Nobody could have been better neighbors. Mom still liked talking with Katie on the phone. She will be missed.

no one can heal,

I had the privilege of knowing Katie as a neighbor where she lived with Chuck, Yvonne and her adored Babe. It was a pleasure to visit with her and hear cherished childhood stories - including the nicknames given by her Dad to all her brothers and sisters. Although health issues began to plague her, she was never the complainer, but a gracious, lovely lady always. Godspeed Katie, we will miss you.

I love you and I wish there was more time. Another phone call. Another moment to spend . Another summer day spent with you. I have my memories of good times and laughter. Memories of you and PawPaw that bring a smile to my heart. Memories that will never fade. Memories of humming birds and warm hearts and stories . I will miss you. I love you Grandma Katie!

My sweet Katie, I will miss you until I see you again. I feel so blessed that I was able to spend a little time with you before you went to be with Ralph and so many of our loved ones. I love you just like all my other sisters. I'm sure I will pick up the phone many times for our weekly visits. Rest In Peace, You will always be in my heart.

Let's hope Heaven has enough little Debbie's and peanut butter and jelly in stock! I never had the chance to meet Katie but I've heard plenty of fond stories from Yvonne.

All of Heaven is rejoicing because another Child of Jesus finally made it home. We will see Ms. Katie again. I am looking forward to it. Until then, I'm deeply sorry for the family and friends who loved her so.

Miss me but let me go, for this is a journey we all must take and each must go alone, it's all part of the Master's plan a step on the road to home. "Unknown"
