Katrina McKee Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 27, 2013.

Katrina McKee passed from this life to the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a valiant 12 year fight with breast cancer Monday, February 25, 2013. Her faith and positive attitude were an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.

Katrina spent years volunteering with organizations such as Bible Study Fellowship, Komen Race for the Cure, Friendships to Internationals, and had many breast cancer partners whom she loved and supported.

She graduated from Purdue University with a degree in retail management and worked in the corporate world for several years before deciding to become a stay home Mom and community volunteer. She was born in Lafayette, Indiana.

She attended Christian Fellowship Church and was passionate about global missions. She went on mission trips and was focused on spreading the truth about Jesus Christ.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Regina Lane.

Katrina is survived by her husband of 28 years, Brian; son, Spencer; daughter, Kendall; mother, Sandra S. Lane of Vincennes, IN; father, James A. Lane of Decker, IN; and brother, David Lane of Elkhart, IN.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Deaconess Gateway Hospital 6th floor surgical/oncology unit, Deaconess Home Health Care, and Deaconess Hospice for the months of loving care they provided Katrina.

A celebration of Katrina's life will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Christian Fellowship Church, 4100 Millersburg Road, Evansville, IN, officiated by Rev. David Niednagel, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery, 5133 Highway 261, Newburgh, IN. Friends may visit Friday, 3:00-8:00 PM, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, Newburgh, IN and 9:00-10:00 AM on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to Christian Fellowship Church, in the name of Katrina McKee, 4100 Millersburg Road, Evansville, IN 47725.

Brian this note is from a long standing friend who now lives in Kansas that knew Katrina when she was a baby. I am shocked that such a nice person had to fight the illness that she had. Katrina left a legacy for all of you to follow. She lived her life in such a way as to leave you with life lessons to cherish. She is now with God and will make a place in Heaven for all of us. May God bless all of you as he has her.

Brian and children,

My deepest sympathy on the passing of your beloved wife and mother. Katrina epitomized the word model, in beauty and Christianity. She lived her life with courage though she faced insurmountable odds. It has been a great joy knowing both of you for many decades. May the peace and serenity of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you and your family in your time of need. Know that Katrina is now smiling down on us from heaven, no more pain, no more sorrow, no more tears. She is now enjoying her heavenly reward for which we all strive.

Katrina was a dear friend of mine the minute we met in 6th grade! We were quite the Mutt and Jeff with her height, and my lack thereof! She was always kind, and always had a smile! My memories of her always include her smile! I feel privileged to have been witness to the journey shared over facebook and I can only imagine the joy the Lord had as He watched you each continue to witness, testify, and demonstrate unshakable faith throughout. I know as she entered those pearly gates healed completely, the Lord was smiling at her, just as big as she was smiling at Him. I continue to hear the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant". Praying for the peace that passes understanding to consume the entire family. Rest in His arms.

I was baptized at Crossroads Christian Church in 2009. I had only known Brian less than a year and had never met Katrina until that day. It meant so much that she went out of her way to be an encouragement to me as a new believer. I remember her smile and positive outlook on everything. The McKee's are a courageous inspiration to many.
