Kenneth R. Bowman, 83, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014. A lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area, he was a retired Police Officer with the City of Chattanooga and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also a member of the Calvary Independent Baptist Church and was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was the son of the late Charles and Clara Patterson Bowman and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Millard and Joyce Jernigan. Survivors include three sons, Rodney Bowman, Chattanooga, Charlie (Marilyn) Bowman, Petersburg, TN and Tim Bowman, Chattanooga; his friend and companion, Helen Shepherd, Chattanooga; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kristi and Tammy; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Forest Hills Cemetery with Pastor Ron Peterson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Independent Baptist Church, 4601 North Terrace Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37411. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 404 S. Moore Road.

Uncle Ken, thank you for always staying in touch and sending gifts and words of encouragement when your sis was in the nursing home. Mike and I appreciated your opening up your heart and home to us and for loving us with all your heart! I truly wish we had lived closer and could have spent more time together. I will miss you dearly!

Ken, You were a very special friend to me when I was experiencing some difficult times with both of my parents in the nursing home. I will always remember the times I spent at your house watching Braves baseball, and talking with you. You made me laugh when I needed it the most. Your sense of humor and generosity will be greatly missed. I felt at home
and and ease when I was at your house. You were my stress reliever. I will always be grateful to you for that. May God's blessings be with your family during this difficult time.
