Chalmers, Kenneth Keefe, Jr., 83, died peacefully on Friday, July 19 from complications of esophageal cancer at the Life Care Center of The Mather in Evanston, Illinois, holding the hand of his adored wife of 52 years, Georganne. He is survived by her, his loving children, Douglas (Elizabeth) of Hinsdale and Julia (Adam) of Winnetka, and grandchildren Elinor and Henry Chalmers, and Mason, Tate, and Ainsley Werner. Chalmers, Kenneth Keefe, Jr., 83, died peacefully on Friday, July 19 from complications of esophageal cancer at the Life Care Center of The Mather in Evanston, Illinois, holding the hand of his adored wife of 52 years, Georganne. He is survived by her, his loving children, Douglas (Elizabeth) of Hinsdale and Julia (Adam) of Winnetka, and grandchildren Elinor and Henry Chalmers, and Mason, Tate, and Ainsley Werner.
Born September 30, 1929 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (and always a Packer fan), his family moved to Wilmette, Illinois during the Depression. Ken graduated with the Class of '47 from New Trier High School, and received a BSBA from Northwestern University in 1951 and an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1962. Ken served as a Lieutenant (jg) in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1953.
In 1956, Ken joined the Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust Company in Chicago, where he became Executive Vice president and head of Special Industries Department before retiring after 38 years with Continental and its successor, Bank of America, in 1994.
During his long professional career Ken was active on many corporate boards, most recently as Director of Dover Motorsports and Dover Downs Gaming and Entertainment. He also served as vice chairman of St. Joseph Hospital Foundation; director and finance committee Chairman of Catholic Health Partners; and member of the alumni advisory board of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern. Ken was a director and Secretary of the Economic Club of Chicago; treasurer of Governor Thompson's Cost Control Task Force; and a member of the RLF/ Joint Venture Screening Committee of the Chicago Economics Development Commission. In Winnetka, his home for 48 years, Ken was president of the Police Pension Board and a commissioner of the Park District. He was also a member of the Indian Hill Club and the University Club of Chicago.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church, 784 Sheridan Road, Winnetka, at 4:30 pm on Friday, August 2, 2013. Memorials donations may be made to The Annual Fund at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, 2001 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL 60201 or to the Midwest Palliative & Hospice Care Center, 2050 Claire Ct. Glenview, IL 60025.
